Team of the Soviet Union took part for the first time. 71 golden, 30 silver and 19 bronze medals were won. N . Romashkova became the first Soviet Olympic champion.
X VI Olympic Games (Melbourne, Australia, 1956 )
Our team was the most successful with 37 golden, 29 silver and 32 bronze medals. Larisa Latynina won 4 golden medals. She won 5 golden medal on the next games and is considered the owner of the largest number of Olympic medals.
X VII Olympic Games (Rome, 1960) Our country was represented by such famous sportsmen as Larisa Latynina, B. Shachlin, V. Kapitonov, P. Bolotnykov. U. Vlasov was called the best sportsman.

IV Olympic Games ( London , 1908)
It was the first time for Russia to take part in Olympic Games. The country was represented by 5 sportsmen. One golden and two silver medals were won.
V Olympic Games ( Stockholm , 1912)
Russian team took part for the first time officially. It consisted of 178 people but showed rather low results.
